Help us Build an Adapted Surf Van

Help us to build a brilliant and unique Adapted Surf Van for disabled people and their families to access the joy of surfing!

Through this Kickstarter project Surfability and Love Campers hope to create the most beautiful and comfortable surf campervan ever made for disabled people.  This will give hundreds of disabled individuals and their families the chance to access the beautiful surf beaches of the Gower Peninsula in Wales (and beyond!).

The adapted surfing scene

Surfability UK was founded in 2013 by visionary, surfer & company Director Ben Clifford; who was determined to shatter the assumption that surfing was impossible for disabled people.

Ben and his team have been on a mission ever since, to give everyone a chance to take to the waves and experience the unadulterated joy of surfing.

Recently featured on the BBC on Nick Knowles’ DIY SOS and championed by Children In Need, Surfability UK’s profile has reached new heights in 2020 despite the challenging times.

Using state of the art, seated surf boards Surfability UK has grown from a small surf school working out of a car, to what is today: a world-leading adaptive surf school.

They now provide lessons for over 500 people a year and their fantastic work has been deeply enriching the lives of young disabled people and their families.

However there is one thing that is holding them back from spreading the joy even further…

LIMITED ACCESSIBILITY TO HOLIDAYS

One hurdle that families with disabled members can face, is limited availability of accessible holiday accommodation.

This is a particular problem in areas of outstanding natural beauty like the Gower Peninsula, where there are strict regulations about new buildings. Families in the Surfability UK network have expressed a desire to be able to access a campervan which is both beautiful and characterful, and with the highly specific features suitable for an additional-needs family.

And so the idea for a one-of-a-kind adapted Surf Van was born!

Help make this dream a reality so more families can access the restorative power of the ocean and surfing.

ARE YOU ABLE TO HELP?

Love Campers and Surfability believe everyone should experience the joy of family holidays and the seaside. This project will not be achievable without crowd-sourcing funds…

To make the dream a reality they need to raise £****

WHAT WILL THE SURF VAN LOOK LIKE?

An adapted, accessible Surf Van will be like no other campervan conversion in the UK! In response to the needs and requirements of the community and through a detailed consultation process, Love Campers will design and build a signature beautiful, handbuilt campervan, with all the mod-cons and features that will ensure that anyone with mobility challenges or autism will have a comfortable and relaxing surf break by the sea.

A short questionnaire is available online to gather further information from the community. If you have experience in this area and are interested in being part of our consultation process please get in touch by emailing marketing@lovecampers.co.uk
